My integrative approach blends evidence-based therapy with creativity, mindfulness, and reflection, helping you discover new ways to grow and connect.
As a licensed psychologist (PSY 34882), my path reflects a unique convergence of creativity and clinical expertise. For many years, I worked in entertainment across Sydney, New York, and Los Angeles. In 2013, while continuing that career, I returned to academia simply to finish the undergraduate degree I had left incomplete in Australia in 2002.
During this time, I was also teaching at the Young Actors Studio in North Hollywood, where I observed the positive impact of acting classes on young people. Having previously directed plays at my former high school in Sydney, I became increasingly curious about how performance, storytelling, and roleplay could benefit adolescents in therapeutic settings. That curiosity inspired me to begin facilitating drama and psychodrama groups for teenagers while completing my undergraduate degree at UCLA (BA in Psychology with a Theater minor).
What began as an experiment soon grew into a vocation. Between 2009 and 2017, I facilitated more than 4,000 experiential groups across leading Los Angeles treatment centers, including adolescent programs and adult programs such as the Peggy Albrecht Friendly House, Los Angeles' oldest women’s recovery center. The groups proved transformative, showing me how creativity and therapy could combine to foster resilience, emotional expression, and growth.
I went on to earn a Master’s and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University, completing clinical training at Encino Community Clinic, the LGBT Center of Los Angeles, and Tarzana Treatment Centers (dual-diagnosis youth track). My postdoctoral fellowship was at BNI Treatment Centers, a high-acuity residential program for adolescents, where I also worked full-time providing individual therapy, family therapy, and parent coaching. These experiences ultimately led me to establish Dr. Rex Psychological Services, Inc.
Today, I integrate psychodynamic, emotion-focused, rational emotive, acceptance and commitment, mindfulness, and experiential methods into therapy. Whether you are struggling with depression, social anxiety, grief, substance use, identity concerns, parenting challenges, or an existential crisis, my goal is to create a supportive, transformative space where you can explore your emotions fully and discover new strategies for growth.
My professional philosophy centers on helping you to not just understand your emotions, but to truly experience and express them in-the-moment in session. With much overlap between theoretical orientations, I offer a dynamic, eclectic perspective grounded in humanisitc/existential traditions: person-centered theory by Carl Rogers, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), emotion-focused therapy (EFT), gestalt, combined with psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), psychodrama, mindfulness, and creative roleplays.
