I offer a compassionate, safe, supportive, and healing space where you can explore and more importantly - mindfully experience your thoughts, feelings and emotions.
As a licensed psychologist (PSY 34882), my journey represents a unique convergence of creative expression and clinical expertise. After pursuing a vibrant career in entertainment across Sydney, New York, and Los Angeles since 1996, I returned to academia at 37 to transform my passion into a profound therapeutic practice. My educational foundation—a Psychology degree with a Theater minor from UCLA, followed by a Master's and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University—has been instrumental in developing my distinctive approach to mental health.
My professional philosophy centers on helping clients not just understand their emotions, but truly experience and express them. I specialize in working with teenagers, families, young adults, and individuals across all life stages, offering a dynamic therapeutic approach that integrates improv, psychodrama, and creative roleplays. Drawing from my background as an actor, director, and teacher, I create a supportive environment where clients can explore their inner landscapes with creativity and depth.
Whether you're struggling with depression, anxiety, substance use, grief, parenting challenges, adolescent issues, or navigating an existential crisis, I am dedicated to supporting your personal growth. With extensive experience facilitating over 4,000 therapeutic groups in various treatment settings, I bring both professional expertise and compassionate understanding to our work together. My goal is to help you not only identify your emotional challenges but to experience them fully and develop meaningful strategies for healing and personal transformation.
Dr. Luke Rex brings a wealth of experience to his practice, with a strong background in serving adolescent and young adult populations facing a wide range of mental health and substance use challenges. In his approach to treatment, Dr. Rex adopts an integrative and eclectic methodology, firmly rooted in a person-centered, humanistic-existential stance. This foundation allows him to tailor his therapeutic techniques to each individual client's needs and preferences. This approach enables him to draw from a wide range of evidence-based practices, ensuring that each client receives personalized care that resonates with their unique experiences and goals
Dr. Rex's extensive experience in group and family therapy spans diverse settings, including his impactful work at Friendly House, Los Angeles' oldest residential treatment center for women battling addiction. His weekly psychodrama sessions there have been instrumental in facilitating healing and recovery. At BNI Treatment Centers, a high-acuity residential treatment center for teenagers, Dr. Rex spent over two years honing his skills in family therapy and parent coaching, addressing complex adolescent issues with compassion and expertise.
